Corn

Corn exports have been steadily increasing in recent years, making it the world’s largest agricultural crop, with an overall growth rate of 3.4 percent per year. Due to its great importance for serving as human and animal food and its variety of forms of commercialization, farmers seek to develop new forms of cultivation that adapt to the different types of regions and soils around the world and to the better management of pest and disease control contributing to the increase of world production. In Brazil, corn is the second largest grain produced, only behind soybeans, and is one of the largest Brazilian agricultural exports, occupying the fourth place in relation to dollar values.

Brazil has overtaken the United States to become the world's largest corn exporter, according to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the 2022/2023 crop.

The last time Brazil was a “gold medal” in corn exports was in 2013, when the U.S. had losses in its production caused by a severe drought. The export of corn is essential for feeding herds around the world. In this harvest that ended, Brazil accounted for 32% of world exports, while the United States, which has led the corn market for more than a century, accounted for about 23%.
